About the Shakti Design Residency
We are inviting creatives to take part in the Shakti Design Residency in India, an ambitious new annual initiative to support international design talent. During a four-week residency in New Delhi and Jaipur, four selected participants will be immersed in Indian craftsmanship and culture, visiting workshops and collaborating with local artisans and an international panel of world-leading design and creative mentors. The result will be the creation of a capsule of sustainable and innovative pieces inspired by their experiences and shaped for a discerning global audience.
The first residency will take place from 1 to 25 October 2024, and is organised in partnership with our sister retail company Curio and innovative design platform Basic.Space. Shalini Misra’s farmhouse and grounds in New Delhi will serve as the hub for this exciting program.
The name ‘Shakti’ comes from a Sanskrit word meaning ‘power’, ‘energy’, or ‘strength’. It is a word that has strong associations with empowerment, creativity, and the active and dynamic forces of the universe.
How it works
The residency is open to applicants who have graduated within the last five years (post graduates will also be considered).
Creatives working in any medium and discipline are encouraged to apply.
Residents will have their flight and accommodation covered for the duration of the residency and will receive an honorarium of $1,500 that will cover their meals and expenses while in India.
To enter, applicants must complete the application form below including a digital portfolio reflecting your work, a one-page CV and a brief statement (no more than 1,000 words) on how the residency would contribute to your future and how you would approach the opportunity.
Following the jury’s selection, a shortlist of designers will invited to take part in an interview.
The Shakti Design Residency is free to enter and the deadline for submissions is 22 July 2024.
